Hawker Siddeley Switchgear Ltd secures major airport contract
Hawker Siddeley Switchgear Ltd has secured a major contract to supply its acclaimed Eclipse indoor switchgear for the Brisbane Airport expansion project, through its Australian subsidiary - Hawker Siddeley Switchgear Australia.
Hawker Siddeley Switchgear Australia, based in Brisbane, will also provide extensions to existing high voltage switchboards and ancillary outdoor switchgear equipment at the airport.
Similar Eclipse switchboards have been installed at other major airports and the technology has also been utilised by other transport systems and utilities providers in the UK, USA and Middle East.
Over the past three years, more than 600 panels have been installed in Australia and New Zealand.

“The switchgear is required as part of an important network expansion project at the airport to increase the capacity of the power supply and improve its reliability. The specification of the contract called for fixed switchgear in order to meet an operational preference for non-withdrawable equipment.
“The Eclipse has a proven track record when it comes to a wide range of applications and offers one of the world’s most advanced and reliable switchgear solutions,” he added.
Compact and easy to install, each panel can be engineered to order and configured to meet the customer’s individual needs. Eclipse switchboards also boast the latest ‘fit and forget’ technology and superior operator safety features.
When completed at the end of 2008, the extended terminal at Brisbane International will help the airport to accommodate more aircraft as passenger numbers increase from nearly four million last year to an estimated six million by 2015.
